Requirements

  • Have 8+ years of software development experience building and operating scalable, reliable production systems.
  • Have led a multi-team migration or re-platforming of a system with live users and live data, end to end.
  • Understand computer science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, networking, and databases.
  • Bring strong data modeling and relational database skills, including designing multi-tenant schemas and safely migrating data.
  • Demonstrate ability to design distributed services with performance, observability, and fault tolerance in mind.
  • Show strong architectural judgment and ability to make technical decisions across teams and codebases.
  • Have experience influencing and mentoring senior engineers and guiding teams through ambiguity.
  • Preferred: experience with ERP, accounting, business management software, e-commerce, or catalogue management.
  • Preferred: experience building Windows desktop applications, particularly in C++ or comparable native desktop technologies.
  • Preferred: experience with Microsoft Azure, production infrastructure, or Azure Virtual Desktop.
  • Preferred: experience with Python and Django or a comparable backend framework.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical direction for the QFloors-to-ERP migration across the desktop and web teams, including domain sequencing, data models, tenant cutovers, and architecture.
  • Plan six or more months ahead, identify foundational investments, and break work down for engineers at different levels.
  • Drive major migration projects to completion, staying hands-on in code where it matters and delegating where appropriate.
  • Elicit requirements and lead design discussions across Windows desktop applications, Azure infrastructure, Django services, and Next.js surfaces.
  • Evaluate competing technical approaches and guide teams through decisions and technology changes.
  • Set review standards across both teams and turn recurring feedback patterns into standards or automation.
  • Mentor engineers across the technologies used by both teams, including helping desktop engineers contribute to the web stack.
  • Keep the platform observable, scalable, and cost-effective, including managing the Azure footprint during the transition.
  • Partner with the engineering manager, product, and CTO on the roadmap and propose alternatives when work is blocked.
  • Help hire and onboard engineers, and lead the design and delivery of complex backend systems, APIs, data pipelines, and services.
