Requirements
- Be a currently matriculated law student who will have completed the first year of law school before the internship begins, or be enrolled in an LLM program.
- Be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship.
- Demonstrate excellent research skills, including internet and legal database research.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Have attention to detail and strong organizing and time-management skills.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Show initiative in seeing projects through to completion.
- Demonstrate commitment to public interest law, civil liberties, and racial justice.
- Demonstrate ability to conduct complex legal analysis and fact finding.
- Demonstrated interest in free speech, privacy, and technology is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support new and active litigation projects.
- Assist in drafting legal memoranda, pleadings, affidavits, motions, and briefs.
- Draft and edit public education and non-litigation advocacy materials.
- Provide support and assistance to ACLU affiliates and cooperating attorneys.
- Work alongside the team and assist in all aspects of litigation.
