Requirements
- Be a current law school student and have completed the first year of law school before the internship begins.
- Demonstrate a strong interest in abolition of the death penalty and a commitment to civil rights.
- Have excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
- Have strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Have strong computer skills, particularly web-based research skills.
- Be proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Show initiative in seeing projects through to completion.
- Commit to 10–12 hours per week for 12 consecutive weeks.
- Tie the internship to formal education through integrated coursework or academic credit.
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal and policy research.
- Draft memoranda, affidavits, and briefs.
- Investigate facts.
- Research potential litigation, including factual and legal claims.
- Research and draft public education materials.
- Support preparation for and participation in depositions, oral arguments, hearings, and trials.
- Assist the team with litigation and integrated advocacy.
