Requirements
- Have led an engineering team with direct reports.
- Have helped a team take on new responsibilities or change the way it works.
- Have spent several years as a senior backend engineer before moving into management.
- Be comfortable discussing system design, infrastructure and technical trade-offs with an experienced team.
- Coach engineers to make decisions and handle stakeholder conversations themselves.
- Communicate clearly and calmly under pressure, including during an outage.
- Build relationships with leads and stakeholders while remaining open to the best solution.
- Connect the team's work to user and business needs through a strong product mindset.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of team rituals, including stand-ups, refinements, sprint planning, retrospectives and a bi-weekly written sync.
- Build working relationships with squad leads and product managers so backend work is included in squad plans from the start of each quarter.
- Build the quarterly roadmap with engineers and keep progress visible to dependent teams.
- Coach engineers through regular 1:1s, development goals and timely feedback, and address accountability issues early.
- Hire for the team with the Talent Acquisition team as it grows.
- Monitor production issues and outages, ensure they reach the right person, and see that they are resolved.
