Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework or technical training in Business, Finance, or related fields preferred.
- 5+ years of recent experience underwriting conventional, FHA, VA, Bond Program, jumbo, permanent, or one-time close loans.
- Current Direct Endorsement (DE) certification required.
- Applicable certifications for assigned regions, including VA, Auto, and SAR as applicable.
- Expert-level knowledge of residential mortgage lending processes and documentation.
- Expert-level understanding of federal, state, agency, and investor regulatory requirements.
- Strong risk management, compliance, and fraud detection skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Intermediate mathematical skills for financial analysis.
Responsibilities
- Review and evaluate loan documentation for accuracy, completeness, compliance, and adherence to requirements.
- Underwrite conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, new construction, condominium, jumbo, and other assigned mortgage loan programs.
- Analyze debt-to-income ratios, credit reports, income, assets, and down payment sources to assess eligibility and identify fraud.
- Review property appraisals to ensure compliance with secondary market, investor, and internal standards.
- Approve or deny loan applications based on underwriting standards, risk factors, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with Loan Processors and Officers to resolve documentation gaps and complete loan packages.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for complex underwriting questions and provide guidance to team members.
