Requirements
- Significant experience designing and building business-critical software systems in production.
- Track record of technical leadership across multiple teams or a broad product area.
- Experience shaping architecture across large, evolving systems with operational complexity.
- Experience building and operating cloud-based systems with high expectations for reliability, security, and performance.
- History of delivering outcomes under challenging timelines and incomplete information.
- Strong systems-thinking skills, with the ability to move between product intent, architecture, implementation, and operations.
- Experience working across more than one technology stack (backend, web/mobile, data, infrastructure).
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to moderate technical conversations and navigate disagreement.
- Hands-on approach with ability to prototype, review designs, and contribute code when necessary.
- English fluency is required.
Responsibilities
- Set and communicate the architectural direction for key areas of Retail Point of Sale.
- Ensure systems supporting new POS capabilities are well-designed, secure, scalable, observable, and resilient.
- Help teams design reliable experiences across checkout, hardware, network connectivity, payments, sales, inventory, and order workflows.
- Lead architectural deep-dives and identify opportunities to simplify systems, reduce duplication, improve performance, and lower operational risk.
- Drive improvements in reliability, availability, latency, and recovery for merchants.
- Establish and evolve engineering practices across design, testing, deployment, observability, and incident management.
- Partner with Product, Design, and Support to turn ambiguous problems into sound technical direction.
- Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders, helping them grow their scope.
- Create alignment across teams and make thoughtful trade-offs between delivery and platform health.
