Requirements
- 8+ years of backend or product engineering experience, with a track record of owning large, complex systems end-to-end at a principal level.
- 1-3 years of engineering management experience, including 1:1s, performance management, and hiring.
- Strong hands-on experience with AI-assisted coding tools like Cursor and Claude.
- Proficiency in OOP fundamentals and experience with Java Spring Boot, Hibernate, or equivalent.
- Experience building or integrating AI/ML features in production, specifically LLMs and RAG-based systems.
- Proven experience leading system design on significant projects.
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
- Expertise in relational database design and SQL optimization.
- Experience designing technical interviews and evaluating senior engineering candidates.
- Strong written communication skills, essential for a remote-first, asynchronous culture.
- Prior startup experience, demonstrating an ability to work without rigid playbooks.
- Ability to work effectively within the CET/CEST timezone.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the strongest individual contributor (70% coding) during the first three months, then transition to more management focus.
- Own system design and technical architecture for high-impact projects.
- Design and execute a consistent, repeatable technical interview process.
- Implement pragmatic performance evaluation frameworks focusing on output, impact, quality, and AI efficiency.
- Scale product capabilities for mid-market customers including RBAC and sub-workspace collaboration.
- Define backend architecture for AI-powered agentic compliance workflows and evidence collection.
- Mentor team members through regular 1:1s, providing direct performance feedback.
- Drive team adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools to increase velocity.
