Requirements
- 5–8 years of experience building and operating production PostgreSQL environments, including Citus, Aurora, AlloyDB, or equivalent distributed systems.
- Deep SQL optimization expertise, including Explain Plans, CTEs, window functions, partitioning, index design, and query-planner behavior.
- Strong understanding of relational database architecture, performance tuning, scalability, availability, and reliability.
- Hands-on experience with CDC and replication technologies such as PeerDB, Fivetran, Debezium, Datastream, or Airbyte.
- Experience with database profiling and performance analysis tools such as pganalyze.
- Production automation experience using Python, Go, or comparable programming languages.
- Experience designing or implementing automation for routine database and infrastructure operations.
- Strong experience using AI coding and analysis tools such as Claude or Copilot to accelerate development.
- Demonstrated experience using AI-assisted analysis to achieve measurable improvements in database performance, reliability, or costs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration in an async-first, distributed environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop, operate, and scale highly available relational database infrastructure supporting petabyte-scale workloads.
- Own query performance, index design, schema optimization, and database tuning for production PostgreSQL and distributed PostgreSQL environments.
- Maintain high availability and performance for customer-facing systems by identifying and resolving database bottlenecks.
- Build agentic automation for routine database operations, including connection-pool provisioning, disk scaling, blue-green deployments, and self-service workflows.
- Manage change-data-capture and replication pipelines using technologies such as PeerDB, Fivetran, Debezium, Datastream, or Airbyte.
- Contribute to platform modernization efforts by migrating workloads and prototyping new data-storage technologies.
- Develop AI-native runbooks, internal tooling, and reusable workflows to increase efficiency and reduce operational toil.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and support the reliability of production database infrastructure.
