Requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in the review and handling of FOIA cases.
- Relevant training and experience in FOIA case processing, disclosure review, records redaction, or litigation support.
- Strong working knowledge of FOIA processes and related federal laws.
- Understanding of federal agency FOIA operations and coordination requirements.
- Strong analytical, writing, and organizational skills for maintaining accurate documentation.
- Familiarity with case-management systems, SharePoint, Box, and approved eDiscovery tools.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Tier 1 background investigation.
- Ability to comply with HSPD-12/PIV requirements and suitability procedures.
- Ability to complete required security, privacy, and role-based training.
- Ability to work remotely and attend in-person meetings as needed.
Responsibilities
- Request, identify, review, and analyze records responsive to assigned FOIA requests, backlogged cases, appeals, and litigation matters.
- Conduct disclosure reviews and apply appropriate FOIA exemptions consistent with federal laws and agency policies.
- Coordinate with Government staff, program offices, and records custodians to clarify request scope and disclosure concerns.
- Prepare records for release using redaction tools, including sanitization, Bates numbering, and exemption indexing.
- Support appeals and litigation matters using tools like Relativity to prepare correspondence and Vaughn-index support.
- Develop and implement eDiscovery search terms and document all search activities.
- Maintain accurate case files, notes, and supporting documentation in designated tracking systems.
- Review work for completeness, accuracy, and consistency before submission for Government approval.
- Identify processing barriers and process improvements to reduce rework and support timely case completion.
