Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10–15+ years of cloud infrastructure, platform, or data infrastructure engineering experience.
- Proven experience establishing patterns and standards that multiple teams depend on.
- Strong production experience architecting on GCP or AWS.
- Expertise in compute, Kubernetes (GKE), VPC networking, private connectivity, and IAM.
- Advanced skills in Terraform and GitOps, including designing and reviewing modules.
- Hands-on experience operating data platform infrastructure at multi-terabyte to petabyte scale.
- Deep production depth in at least two data domains: streaming, operational databases, NoSQL, columnar analytics, or pipeline orchestration.
- Proven ability to diagnose and fix expensive or slow data workloads and translate fixes into reusable patterns.
- Demonstrated ability to drive pattern adoption across engineering organizations through influence rather than positional authority.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain reference patterns for streaming, messaging, operational databases, analytical stores, and pipeline orchestration on GCP.
- Define CI/CD and GitOps patterns for data jobs and pipelines to enable safe, automated delivery.
- Establish performance, cost, and observability patterns, including query optimization, workload isolation, and SLO practices.
- Execute structured POCs of emerging data technologies and vendor offerings for procurement and lifecycle processes.
- Define secure infrastructure patterns for connecting vendor-managed data planes like Confluent Cloud and Snowflake to the GCP environment.
- Contribute infrastructure guidance for data consolidation, classification, residency, and access policies.
- Lead design reviews and workshops to enable data teams, serving as the primary infrastructure consultant.
