Requirements
- Deep, hands-on Transformer expertise with a record of material architecture or training decisions.
- Experience with at least one substantial project that progressed beyond simulation into an operational physical system.
- Strong Python engineering skills.
- Direct experience with PyTorch or an equivalent deep-learning framework.
- Ability to read and debug unfamiliar model and training code.
- Experience designing controlled experiments and analyzing rollout failures.
- Experience working with large multimodal datasets.
- Sound judgment around compute, memory, training stability, and inference latency.
- Demonstrated technical leadership in research, model development, or robotics programs.
- Ability to mentor and hire technical talent.
Responsibilities
- Define a focused Physical AI research and engineering roadmap with clear hypotheses and milestones.
- Select, train, adapt, or evaluate model families for embodied tasks.
- Personally design and train Transformer-based systems for robot policies.
- Establish reproducible offline and real-world evaluation systems.
- Protect evaluations against leakage, overfitting, and misleading criteria.
- Analyze failures across data, perception, models, control, and hardware.
- Design safe, staged physical testing and deployment plans.
- Recruit and lead a small team of researchers and engineers.
- Translate customer and partner needs into testable technical requirements.
