Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience or equivalent education.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration required.
  • Experience in data center mechanical and electrical equipment installation and operation.
  • Proficiency in HVAC load calculations and capacity planning.
  • Experience with CFD analysis for airflow management.
  • Knowledge of data center industry standards such as Uptime Institute Tier Standards, TIA 942, or ANSI/BICSI 002 is preferred.
  • Relevant professional certifications like CEM, BEMP, or LEED are advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and design heat rejection and HVAC systems tailored for data centers considering redundancy and energy efficiency.
  • Select appropriate air/water side cooling systems such as CRAHs, chilled water systems, and containment solutions.
  • Conduct internal and external CFD simulations to optimize airflow distribution and mechanical performance.
  • Design HVAC systems with redundancy and fault-tolerant features to ensure continuous data center operation.
  • Perform heat load calculations and capacity planning to accommodate IT equipment and future expansions.
  • Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to integrate HVAC systems with facility power and fire suppression infrastructure.
