Requirements
- At least 7 years of experience as a backend engineer, with a strong focus on backend systems and production data stores.
- Deep experience with relational databases (ideally PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, or MSSQL).
- Deep experience with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch, including query performance, indexing, and data modeling.
- Proven experience leading medium-to-large engineering initiatives (3+ months) end-to-end.
- Ability to investigate slow queries, execution plans, and index usage for troubleshooting.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for a remote-first environment.
- Experience in coordinating across teams and driving predictable delivery.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend services for the data layer spanning relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
- Own the end-to-end delivery of engineering initiatives by breaking down requirements into solution designs and driving projects.
- Evolve processes for how data is stored, retained, and exposed to meet customer needs.
- Optimize secondary storage systems for performance and scale.
- Build tooling to improve the understandability, troubleshooting, and production operation of the data layer.
- Participate in L3 support and on-call rotations to investigate production issues.
