Requirements
- Experience managing engineers directly, ideally 5+ on a product or platform team.
- Credible engineering background with experience shipping production software.
- Ability to review PRs, evaluate design docs, and assess project estimates.
- Track record of delivery and improving team shipping predictability.
- Fluency in modern AI product development, including evals, experiment design, and dataset curation.
- Comfort working with ambiguity and high-complexity domains like mortgage origination.
- Strong product partnership instincts and experience engaging with non-engineering stakeholders.
- Clear and crisp written communication skills for a remote-first environment.
- Experience with operational reliability, incident response, and postmortems.
- Keen eye for security risks related to sensitive personal data.
- Experience hiring, onboarding, interviewing, and closing candidates.
Responsibilities
- Own pod performance, including clarity around priorities, ownership, and expectations.
- Manage the operating cadence, such as planning, retrospectives, and follow-through.
- Remove blockers to ensure engineers can focus on high-leverage problems.
- Conduct weekly 1:1s and provide continuous, specific performance feedback.
- Support engineer growth, manage performance gaps, and oversee team hiring and onboarding.
- Partner with Product Managers to align engineering efforts with high-value goals.
- Collaborate with Technical Leads to manage architecture, quality, and technical risk.
- Escalate risks and project dependencies early to the Head of Engineering.
