Job Details

Professional software engineering experience working with PostgreSQL in large, complex production environments.
Experience building or operating a database-as-a-service product.
Proficiency with Go, including designing, implementing, testing, and reviewing backend services.
Experience developing Kubernetes operators, controllers, or similar automation for the lifecycle of stateful services.
Comfort with infrastructure as code concepts.
Knowledge of core database operations including high availability, replication, backups, and system-level performance trade-offs.
Strong written communication skills and experience working in an all-remote, distributed team.
Proven ability to own technical direction for major initiatives.
Ability to influence engineering patterns and mentor team members.

Design, build, and maintain Go-based automation that manages the full PostgreSQL lifecycle including provisioning, configuration, upgrades, failover, scaling, and decommissioning.
Build automation that works across infrastructure-as-code tooling and cloud infrastructure.
Use AI agents to implement, review, and reduce repetitive operational work.
Build automation and services for high-throughput, always-on production workloads.
Integrate compute, storage, networking, identity, and access management into a coherent PostgreSQL platform.
Build GitLab's PostgreSQL as a service platform to replace bespoke database setups.
Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and delivery teams to ship high-performing solutions.
Research and implement improvements to PostgreSQL performance, scalability, and data health.
Review automation and Go changes from other engineers.
Operate developed services in production from end to end.
