Requirements

  • At least 1 year of outpatient Cath/IVR coding experience.
  • Professional coding certification through AAPC (CPC or COC) or AHIMA (CCS or CCS-P).
  • At least 6 months of professional on-the-job coding experience.
  • Working knowledge and practical experience with EMR, billing, and related healthcare information systems.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM coding principles and the ability to interpret coding guidelines accurately.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain 95% or higher accuracy and productivity, as well as a 95% or higher quality score.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliable internet access, a phone, and current professional coding references (CPT and ICD-10-CM).
  • Ability to work independently from a home office.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate outpatient coding services that support client healthcare revenue cycle and reimbursement activities.
  • Review clinical documentation and assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes at the highest level of specificity supported by the available documentation.
  • Apply established coding guidelines and standards to ensure accurate and compliant code assignment.
  • Identify the relationship between clinical documentation, code selection, and potential reimbursement outcomes.
  • Independently manage coding responsibilities while maintaining required productivity, accuracy, and quality standards.
  • Protect confidential information and Personal Health Information (PHI) by following applicable privacy, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Follow professional ethical standards, including applicable AHIMA coding principles and internal ethics and compliance policies.
  • Participate actively in required training, education, and professional development activities.
  • Use electronic medical records, billing platforms, coding references, and other systems effectively to complete assigned work.
  • Maintain accurate and timely work while coordinating priorities, analyzing information, making sound decisions, and meeting deadlines.
