Requirements
- J.D. from an accredited US law school.
- Active membership in good standing in at least one state bar.
- 5+ years of legal experience at a national or regional law firm.
- Strong focus on patent prosecution for consumer software and hardware technology.
- Demonstrated background in IP counseling, including trademarks, patents, and open source matters.
- Experience drafting, revising, and negotiating complex contracts involving IP rights.
- Demonstrated interest in using AI-powered tools and technology for efficiency.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teamwork.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Undergraduate degree in a technical discipline such as computer science is a plus.
- Experience as in-house counsel at a consumer tech company is a plus.
- Trademark prosecution experience is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Manage and develop the patent portfolio, including responding to office actions, conducting clearance analysis, and identifying patentable inventions.
- Oversee trademark portfolio development, including supporting prosecution and enforcement, and collaborating with marketing on clearance checks.
- Advise business partners on transactional intellectual property matters, including trade secrets, licensing, and strategy.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements regarding the development, transfer, and commercialization of intellectual property.
- Provide legal guidance on open source licenses and review social media marketing for compliance.
- Support corporate development due diligence efforts by identifying IP risks and ownership considerations.
- Collaborate across functions to align legal recommendations with business objectives.
