Requirements
- 10+ years of production software engineering experience, including staff-level technical scope.
- Deep full-stack experience, including modern frontend development with React or a comparable framework.
- Strong backend capability in Go, Python, or a similar language.
- A strong record of building external customer-facing products where UX affects adoption, trust, and business outcomes.
- Demonstrated customer obsession: you seek feedback, speak directly with users, turn insight into product improvements, and advocate for customer needs.
- Strong independent design and UX judgment; you can make high-quality product decisions without relying on a dedicated designer.
- Experience with limited releases, feature flags, beta programs, experiments, or phased rollouts.
- A record of owning architecture across teams, mentoring engineers, and leading delivery in an ambiguous, fast-changing environment.
- Experience in both a rigorous, high-engineering-bar organization and a startup or scale-up environment.
- Clear, effective English communication.
- Ability to work from the US East Coast or London, UK.
- Ability to travel to Africa approximately three times per year.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of customer-facing applications that support ordering, tracking, and delivery operations.
- Own major projects end to end: shaping user flows, making UX decisions, designing architecture and data models, implementing across the stack, and measuring results after launch.
- Build fast feedback loops with customers through direct conversations, analytics, support signals, limited releases, and structured experiments.
- Establish feature-flag, beta, phased-rollout, or other gradual-release practices that let us validate changes with a subset of customers before broad release.
- Raise the quality bar for frontend UX, interaction patterns, accessibility, and product polish.
- Partner with operations, supply chain, finance, and customer-facing teams to identify and solve high-impact user problems.
- Improve reliability, testing, observability, and engineering practices across the applications you own.
- Mentor engineers and help set product-minded technical standards across the team.
