Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in compliance, underwriting, risk, or a related function within payments or financial services.
  • Experience with a payment processor, Payment Facilitator, acquiring bank, acquiring ISO, sponsor bank, fintech, or regulated financial institution is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience leading compliance due diligence and control assessments for regulated financial services or payments clients.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. payments regulations and financial crime requirements, including BSA/AML, OFAC sanctions, CIP, CDD, EDD, FinCEN guidance, money transmission licensing, and applicable federal and state requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess AML/BSA, sanctions, licensing, consumer regulatory, and financial crime compliance programs and controls.
  • Strong understanding of merchant acquiring, card payments, ACH, real-time payments, and Visa and Mastercard rules.
  • Proven ability to evaluate complex business models and develop practical, risk-based compliance recommendations.
  • Strong analytical, written, verbal, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Experience designing or improving compliance processes, policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Criminal Justice, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • ACAMS certification is strongly preferred; CAFP, CAMS-Audit, CRCM, or other relevant certifications are also valued.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end compliance due diligence and control reviews for prospective clients, assessing regulatory, operational, financial crime, and payment ecosystem risks.
  • Analyze complex business models, payment flows, and payment use cases to determine regulatory requirements, onboarding supportability, and appropriate risk mitigation measures.
  • Evaluate the design and effectiveness of client compliance programs, including AML/BSA, sanctions, licensing, consumer protection, and financial crime controls.
  • Make risk-based onboarding recommendations and serve as the primary compliance advisor for high-risk, complex, or strategically important opportunities.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and technical guidance to Compliance Risk Analysts on CDD, EDD, sanctions screening, and onboarding requirements.
  • Partner with clients, sponsor and partner banks, payment networks, and internal stakeholders to facilitate onboarding and required approvals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partner banks, understanding institution-specific compliance requirements, expectations, and risk appetites.
  • Develop and enhance compliance policies, standard operating procedures, onboarding frameworks, and governance practices.
  • Lead strategic initiatives focused on improving onboarding quality, operational efficiency, consistency, governance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor regulatory, payments, and card-network developments and incorporate relevant changes into onboarding practices, policies, and internal guidance.
