Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in advocacy.
  • Experience collaborating with state and local partners to advance goals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with important stakeholders.
  • Experience with frequent work travel, including occasional short-notice travel.
  • Passion for improving educational opportunities for children.
  • Diagnostic mindset, creativity, and the courage to take risks.
  • Self-starter capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment.
  • Direct advocacy experience working in a statehouse (preferred).
  • Expertise in K-12 education policy (preferred).
  • Experience with 501(c)(4) and 527 entities, and independent expenditure campaigns (preferred).
  • Fundraising and donor relations experience (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Improve state policy environments through collaboration with state associations and partner organizations.
  • Lead direct, on-the-ground advocacy efforts to pass pro-charter legislation in priority states.
  • Build state association capacity in policy, advocacy, legal, communications, and development.
  • Mobilize diverse coalitions to support policy goals.
  • Produce tools and resources for state charter school associations.
  • Create fundable programming, write progress reports for donors, and manage cross-team deliverables for grants.
  • Serve as an expert and go-to person in the sector for public charter school advocacy.
