Requirements
- Extensive experience owning backend systems end-to-end from design through shipping and monitoring.
- Professional background in fraud, risk, payments, or similar high-consequence domains.
- Proven ability to design complex systems from scratch.
- Strong architectural instincts and a commitment to high-quality code.
- Experience mentoring engineers and raising technical standards within a team.
- Proactive mindset focused on shipping work early and often.
- Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous early-stage environments.
- Exposure to card scheme rules, chargeback workflows, or fraud vendor integrations (nice to have).
- Experience with webhook-based event systems, rules engines, or orchestration platforms (nice to have).
Responsibilities
- Architect and build automation for payment dispute management including deadline tracking, evidence collection, and notification.
- Develop and ship native rules and signals engines for velocity rules, blocklists, and device fingerprinting.
- Integrate third-party fraud vendors like Riskified, Forter, Signifyd, and Sift to create a unified switching experience.
- Make early architectural decisions regarding service boundaries, data models, and integration patterns for scalability.
- Partner with Engineering Managers and Product teams to address merchant pain points and improve dispute coverage.
- Support occasional frontend development for dashboards as needed.
