Requirements
- Solid editing experience in a fast-moving news, culture, or entertainment newsroom.
- Comfortable managing a high volume of timely, topical articles.
- Proficiency with WordPress.
- Experience with project management tools like Trello or Asana.
- Ability to edit high daily volumes of copy without sacrificing quality.
- Strong passion for and familiarity with TV, movies, general entertainment, and internet culture.
- Solid understanding of The Mary Sue's unique editorial voice.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a remote environment with high communication standards.
- Prior experience with short-form video curation or distribution (preferred).
- Experience with syndication platforms like MSN, Newsbreak, or Smart News (preferred).
Responsibilities
- Edit and publish articles day-to-day across entertainment, politics, and internet culture while maintaining publication voice and quality standards.
- Curate and/or distribute short-form video content.
- Review and accept writer pitches, editing copy quickly and to a high standard.
- Serve as a steady point of contact for staff and freelance writers to solve workflow problems and bottlenecks.
- Ensure coverage meets publishing guidelines and requirements for platforms such as MSN, Newsbreak, and Yahoo.
- Flag issues and standout work for escalation or elevation.
- Maintain consistency and momentum across a high-output newsroom.
