Requirements
- Have 15+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including several years at senior staff level or above.
- Bring a track record of building and operating distributed systems at large scale.
- Have hands-on experience building on multiple cloud vendors, including AWS, GCP, and Azure, and with object storage.
- Have deep hands-on Rust experience, or strong systems experience and a desire to master Rust.
- Bring expertise in distributed caching, reliability, and performance engineering.
- Have demonstrated ability to set technical direction across multiple teams or divisions and influence executive decisions.
- Communicate clearly in writing and verbally with engineers, executives, and customers.
- An advanced degree in computer science or a related field is a plus; equivalent experience counts.
- Experience with high-ingest-rate time series or observability workloads is a plus.
- Experience running a database as a managed cloud service is a plus.
- Published talks, papers, or writing on databases or distributed systems are a plus.
Responsibilities
- Shape the long-term technical vision for InfluxDB 3.0 and its place in the product portfolio.
- Partner with engineering leaders on product strategy, roadmap bets, and build-versus-buy decisions.
- Design and write production Rust for the storage engine, including ingestion, compaction, columnar storage on object stores, caching, and query execution with DataFusion.
- Drive distributed caching, reliability, and performance work from benchmarks through production.
- Contribute to cloud deployment discussions across AWS and Azure.
- Set engineering standards and best practices across multiple teams and divisions.
- Participate in the on-call rotation and promote operational excellence.
- Mentor staff and senior engineers and develop technical leaders.
- Represent InfluxData's engineering perspective to executives and customers.
