Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required; an advanced degree is preferred.
- Relevant professional experience in biopharmaceuticals, life sciences consulting, corporate strategy, business operations, or a related field.
- A PhD with approximately 3–4 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree with approximately 6 years of experience is particularly desirable; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
- Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, including drug discovery, clinical development, and the R&D value chain.
- Ability to independently structure and solve complex, ambiguous strategic problems and develop well-supported recommendations.
- Ability to manage workstreams with limited supervision.
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and information-synthesis skills.
- Executive communication, presentation, and storytelling skills, including preparation of decision-oriented materials for senior leadership.
- Project management and organizational skills to manage priorities, coordinate stakeholders, and drive initiatives to completion.
- Ability to collaborate across functions and engage with senior stakeholders.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with practical implementation and take ownership of responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead strategic analyses of R&D priorities, organizational capabilities, productivity, portfolio considerations, and business opportunities.
- Structure ambiguous strategic questions, conduct targeted research, and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Conduct industry benchmarking, competitive intelligence, market assessments, and evaluations of R&D approaches and operating models.
- Contribute to R&D strategies, long-term organizational priorities, and capability-building initiatives.
- Manage strategic workstreams and special projects from problem definition and analysis through recommendations and early implementation.
- Collaborate with Research, Development, Finance, Business Development, and other cross-functional teams to assess alternatives and advance priorities.
- Support initiatives involving R&D innovation, external partnerships, new operating models, and development capabilities.
- Translate recommendations into implementation plans and support execution.
- Prepare executive presentations, strategic narratives, briefing documents, and recommendations for senior R&D leadership.
- Support R&D strategic planning, goal setting, governance, leadership activities, and cross-functional initiatives.
