Requirements
- Demonstrate strong SQL and T-SQL expertise, including data modelling and improving legacy SQL databases.
- Have hands-on experience building and maintaining data pipelines and integrations in Microsoft Azure.
- Have experience with Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Data Lake Storage.
- Bring commercial backend development experience, including REST API development, system integrations, and Git.
- Have strong Power BI experience, including DAX, Power Query / M, Dataflows, and Paginated Reports.
- Be able to evaluate Power BI costs and limitations and assess alternative business intelligence solutions.
- Have experience automating business processes and data workflows.
- Be able to translate business and financial requirements into working data engineering solutions.
- Demonstrate ownership of data engineering requirements from concept through production delivery.
- Combine data engineering expertise with backend development capability for a role split approximately 75% data engineering and 25% backend development.
- Have experience working with existing or legacy data environments and identifying pragmatic improvements.
- Have excellent spoken English communication skills and explain technical work and sensitive financial information clearly to the CFO and senior leadership.
- Be able to work independently, take initiative, and deliver without detailed specifications.
- Work collaboratively with a small development team while maintaining ownership of individual deliverables.
- Exercise commercial awareness, sound technical judgement, trustworthiness, and discretion with confidential information.
Responsibilities
- Own data requirements end to end, from concept through production.
- Collaborate with two existing developers on deeper application development.
- Prioritise payroll-related data requirements and develop an invoicing system to automate manual invoicing.
- Assess the legacy SQL database and Azure data environment, then recommend and implement improvements.
- Build and maintain data pipelines and integrations across Azure, HubSpot, Xero, and Stripe.
- Analyse club financial performance and membership utilisation, producing reports and internal dashboards.
- Combine HubSpot and financial data to report on campaign costs, customer acquisition costs, and overall business costs.
- Develop data services, REST APIs, and backend functionality to integrate data and insights into the application.
- Maintain the Power BI environment and assess its suitability against cost and reporting requirements.
- Automate manual business processes and data handling using Power Automate or other appropriate tools.
- Work with the CFO and leadership to translate financial and business requirements into practical data solutions.
- Evaluate technical approaches pragmatically and handle sensitive payroll and financial information responsibly.
