Requirements
- Have 7+ years of professional C#/.NET development experience, including recent .NET 8 or later, ASP.NET Core and REST API design.
- Have hands-on experience shipping LLM-based features to production, ideally RAG or AI search.
- Understand embeddings, vector search, chunking strategies and prompt design, including their effects on answer quality.
- Have strong Azure experience, including Azure OpenAI or Azure AI Search, and core services such as App Service or AKS, Functions, Storage and Key Vault.
- Have experience using AI development tools such as Claude Code or Codex.
- Apply automated testing, CI/CD, observability and infrastructure as code using Bicep or Terraform.
- Take a practical approach to data protection and security when handling sensitive information.
- Be able to explain technical trade-offs to product, compliance and customer-facing colleagues.
- Have English proficiency at C1 level or higher.
- Freelance contract for 6 months, with the possibility to extend.
Responsibilities
- Agree on the AI architecture and roadmap with the Head of Product and Engineering Manager.
- Lead AI design reviews, code reviews and technical decisions, documenting them in lightweight decision records.
- Mentor and upskill C# developers in AI engineering practice, prompt design and evaluation.
- Build RAG for grounded search and question answering over procedures, with citations to sources.
- Implement hybrid keyword and vector search, relevance tuning and per-authority content scoping.
- Deliver summarisation, change-highlighting and AI-assisted authoring features for content editors.
- Integrate with Squidex or a similar headless CMS and build ingestion pipelines that keep indexes in sync with published content, versions and workflow states.
- Design and run Azure AI workloads with infrastructure as code and CI/CD pipelines alongside the SRE team.
- Monitor latency, quality and cost, and build evaluation sets and automated checks for answer accuracy, grounding and regressions.
- Implement guardrails against hallucination, prompt injection and cross-tenant content leakage; maintain architecture documentation and runbooks and pair with client engineers.
