- Have experience influencing stakeholders without formal authority and improving systems and team practices.
- Have managed or led a team responsible for production systems and a real on-call rotation.
- Understand operational reliability.
- Have shipped and operated software in environments with limited control over infrastructure or deployment conditions, such as on-premises, private cloud, BYOC, or managed single-tenant environments.
- Understand version compatibility, incomplete telemetry, customer-specific infrastructure, and enterprise security restrictions.
- Have working knowledge of Kubernetes and AWS and be able to review technical designs and contribute to incident reviews.
- Have worked directly with enterprise customers or buyers on security questionnaires, access models, procurement requirements, escalations, or deployment constraints.
- Have experience hiring, onboarding, and developing engineers in technically complex domains.
- Be comfortable with AI development tools and have a thoughtful perspective on their appropriate use.
- Nice to have: familiarity with observability platforms, distributed tracing, or OpenTelemetry; experience with Go, Terraform, Kafka, or large-scale data infrastructure; or familiarity with FedRAMP, AWS GovCloud, or regulated-industry compliance.
Responsibilities
- Lead delivery and ongoing evolution of the private-cloud product, including its infrastructure, tooling, and operational processes.
- Align engineering priorities with business objectives, sales opportunities, and customer needs.
- Partner with Field Engineering, Support, and Sales on proofs of concept, security reviews, access requirements, procurement, contractual requests, and customer escalations.
- Evaluate customer feedback, distinguish product improvements from one-off requests, and communicate technical trade-offs.
- Coordinate engineering work and dependencies across teams while maintaining alignment between the private-cloud offering and the core SaaS platform.
- Bring useful tools and infrastructure improvements developed for private-cloud deployments back into the SaaS environment.
- Lead, recruit, onboard, and develop engineers while encouraging knowledge sharing and sustainable ownership.
- Maintain operational health, production readiness, incident response, and system reliability in customer-controlled environments.
- Guide technical decisions involving infrastructure, deployment models, security constraints, version compatibility, and limited observability.
- Encourage effective use of AI-powered development tools and operational workflows.
