Requirements
- Have 9-10+ years of experience using core Java and/or J2EE and Spring.
- Know ORM solutions such as Hibernate.
- Have database experience with open-source databases such as MySQL and/or PostgreSQL.
- Have JavaScript experience and decent front-end skills.
- Be comfortable with TDD/BDD practices and tools such as JUnit.
- Have hands-on, day-to-day experience with AI coding assistants or agentic tools, including writing effective prompts and specifications and critically reviewing AI-generated code.
- Understand how AI agents connect to engineering tools through MCP servers, and related risks such as prompt injection and over-permissioned access.
- API development using current standards is an advantage.
- SPA front-end experience is an advantage.
- Experience with larger codebases and refactoring, including AI-assisted legacy-code modernization, is an advantage.
- Experience creating agent skills, custom instructions, or reusable workflows for AI coding tools is an advantage.
- Experience building MCP servers or tool integrations in Java, or integrating LLMs into Java services, is an advantage.
- OpenSSL, mod_security, general security, Linux, AWS, Ansible, Terraform, and payment-industry experience are advantages.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement complex workflows, APIs, and UI backends for payment platforms.
- Perform test-driven development using tools such as JUnit.
- Help scale highly available payment services.
- Use AI coding assistants and agents for implementation, refactoring, test generation, code review, and legacy-code exploration; own the quality of their output.
- Contribute to shared AI tooling, including agent skills, project instructions, prompt templates, and MCP server configurations.
- Apply secure and responsible AI practices in a PCI DSS environment, keeping cardholder data, secrets, and other sensitive information out of AI tools.
