Requirements
- Have at least one year of interpreting experience in a court setting.
- Complete training aligned with the NCSC model curriculum in interpretation techniques, legal/court terminology, and interpreter ethics.
- Demonstrate English and target-language proficiency through an approved assessment.
- Provide two professional references who can confirm your status as a court interpreter.
- Have a high school diploma.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Agree to undergo annual criminal history background checks.
- Have a strong understanding of court procedures.
- Provide polite forms of expression, clear enunciation, and a high level of customer service.
- Comply with applicable interpreter ethics and standards.
- Onsite interpreters must live within reasonable driving distance of New Hampshire court sites.
Responsibilities
- Provide onsite interpretation at New Hampshire Judicial Branch court locations when assigned to OSI services.
- Provide prescheduled video remote interpretation to multiple NHJB courts.
- Provide prescheduled over-the-phone interpretation to multiple NHJB courts.
- Accurately convey concepts and meanings between speakers and Limited English Proficient speakers.
- Maintain correct grammar, clarity, and tones between English and the target language.
- Follow speakers’ direction, interject professionally when clarification is needed, and manage conversation flow.
- Avoid side conversations with Limited English Proficient speakers and disagreements with customers or speakers.
- Comply with applicable interpreter ethics and standards.
