Requirements

  • Have 3+ years of commercial experience in full-stack JavaScript development.
  • Have strong experience with Node.js and Express, including REST APIs, authentication, and session management.
  • Have strong experience with MongoDB and Mongoose, including schema design, indexing, queries, existing data, and migrations.
  • Have strong experience with React and Redux, including older Create React App codebases, React 18/19, and Next.js.
  • Be comfortable working with existing codebases that have limited documentation and automated testing.
  • Have a strong understanding of Git, including feature branches, pull requests, and submodules.
  • Provide clear written English and effective asynchronous updates to an Australian team.
  • Be based in the Philippines.
  • Be able to collaborate during approximately 9 AM–5 PM Australian business hours, Monday to Friday, with flexibility in managing contractor work time.
  • Disclose existing ongoing roles or client work and reflect this engagement on LinkedIn as an “Independent Contractor”.
  • Nice to have: knowledge of SCORM, xAPI, or LMS integrations; familiarity with rich-text or drag-and-drop editors; Stripe subscriptions and billing; OpenAI or other LLM API integration; Electron or Capacitor; automated testing; interactive front-end libraries; or AI coding assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of development work from the MongoDB data model through the Express API to the React front end.
  • Take over and become familiar with the existing codebase, repositories, environments, and services.
  • Document setup, architecture, processes, and technical decisions.
  • Build and fix features in Genesis, including functionality for its drag-and-drop learning editor.
  • Build and maintain interactive learning objects and maintain SCORM 1.2 export and preview functionality.
  • Contribute to SensAI, the AI-powered course-writing assistant using the OpenAI API.
  • Build and maintain features in Cosmos Public, the Next.js learning marketplace, including pricing, delivery methods, subscriptions, and billing.
  • Design and modify Mongoose models, database queries, indexes, and REST API endpoints.
  • Maintain and extend the shared Node.js and Express backend, including authentication, sessions, and administration functionality.
  • Improve older code and dependencies, introduce automated tests, test work before review, and collaborate through Git feature branches and pull requests.
