Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience operating self-managed infrastructure and production networking, not only managed cloud services.
- Strong Linux and networking fundamentals.
- Comfort diagnosing routing, NAT, firewall, MTU, TLS, and packet-level issues.
- Practical troubleshooting experience with tcpdump and production network diagnostics.
- Comfort with encrypted and unencrypted tunneling, such as IPsec, WireGuard, or GRE.
- Strong infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD experience for containerised systems.
- Experience designing monitoring and alerting, including deciding what warrants waking an on-call engineer.
- Ability to work directly with engineers from external infrastructure and network providers.
- Telecom, carrier, messaging, or persistent-network-connection experience is an advantage.
- Knowledge of SMPP, SIP, SS7, or similar telecom protocols is an advantage.
Responsibilities
- Build and operate Kubernetes infrastructure across two sites using infrastructure-as-code and automated delivery.
- Design deployment mechanisms that gracefully drain long-lived connections during releases.
- Own platform networking, including stable ingress and egress IPs, Layer 4 load balancing, TLS, and connectivity coordination with an external infrastructure provider.
- Build and operate metrics, logs, dashboards, and alerting, with monitoring based on production behaviour and individual connections.
- Manage certificate lifecycle, secrets, and platform access control.
- Operate PostgreSQL in a highly available environment, including replication, failover, backups, and verified restores.
- Design and exercise backup and disaster-recovery procedures across two sites.
- Work with engineers and QA on performance and production-scale load testing.
- Support migration and production cutovers, and participate in incident response and a 24×7 on-call rotation.
