Requirements
- Have 5+ years of professional backend development experience.
- Have strong technical skills and experience building and running production APIs and services.
- Have hands-on relational database experience; PostgreSQL is preferred, including schema design, queries, and performance tuning.
- Have experience with a major cloud platform; GCP experience is required.
- Have Firebase and Firestore experience.
- Use AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot and be able to discuss how they affect your work.
- Have experience integrating AI/LLM APIs into applications, or a strong desire to build that skill quickly.
- Be comfortable collaborating on infrastructure and reliability work and care about production operations.
- Communicate clearly and work with engineering, product, and support teammates.
- Education technology or assessment/testing platform experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with WCAG accessibility requirements is a plus.
- Data migration, observability tooling, or incident response experience is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Own the design, development, and maintenance of backend services and data systems powering the products.
- Build and maintain APIs and services running on Google Cloud Platform.
- Manage PostgreSQL, Firestore, and Firebase data layers, including schema design, data integrity, migrations, and performance.
- Use AI coding and development tools daily and help shape how the team applies them.
- Design backend systems for AI-powered product features, including LLM API integrations and supporting data pipelines.
- Partner with the SRE on deployments, observability, incident response, and infrastructure decisions.
- Protect school and student data through sound security and privacy practices.
- Document technical decisions and communicate them to technical and non-technical teammates.
