- Experience with Citus, Aurora, AlloyDB, or equivalent distributed PostgreSQL systems.
- Deep SQL optimization expertise, including Explain Plans, CTEs, window functions, partitioning, index design, and query-planner behavior in distributed environments.
- Strong understanding of relational database architecture, performance tuning, scalability, availability, and reliability.
- Hands-on experience with CDC and replication technologies such as PeerDB, Fivetran, Debezium, Datastream, or Airbyte.
- Experience with database profiling and performance analysis tools such as pganalyze or equivalent, including interpreting metrics, logs, and performance data.
- Production automation experience using Python, Go, or comparable programming languages.
- Experience designing or implementing automation for routine database and infrastructure operations; PostgreSQL extension development is a plus.
- Experience using AI coding and analysis tools such as Claude or Copilot, and evaluating, validating, modifying, or rejecting AI-generated recommendations.
- Demonstrated experience using AI-assisted analysis to improve database performance, reliability, or infrastructure costs.
- Ability to investigate complex technical issues and develop practical solutions; collaborate across distributed engineering teams in an async-first environment.
- Willingness and ability to participate in an on-call rotation, subject to applicable regional requirements.
Responsibilities
- Develop, operate, and scale highly available relational database infrastructure supporting petabyte-scale workloads.
- Own query performance, index design, schema optimization, and database tuning for production PostgreSQL and distributed PostgreSQL environments.
- Identify and resolve database bottlenecks to maintain availability and performance for customer-facing systems.
- Use AI-assisted analysis and database profiling tools to identify and validate storage, compute, compression, and data-model optimizations.
- Build agentic automation for routine database operations, including connection-pool provisioning, disk scaling, blue-green deployments, and self-service workflows.
- Develop safeguards and automated validation processes to protect data integrity and system performance before production database changes.
- Manage change-data-capture and replication pipelines, and investigate replication failures and database reliability issues.
- Migrate workloads from legacy infrastructure and evaluate or prototype data-storage technologies.
- Develop AI-native runbooks, internal tooling, and reusable workflows to increase engineering efficiency and reduce operational toil.
- Coordinate schema changes and infrastructure improvements with product and engineering teams; participate in on-call and document technical decisions.
