Requirements
- Minimum of 5-7 years of mortgage underwriting experience.
- DE certification for underwriting FHA loans.
- Thorough knowledge of Desktop Underwriter, Loan Prospector, and FHA Total Mortgage Scorecard.
- Working knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, and FHA guidelines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience reviewing appraisals and warranting condo projects.
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) or work experience equivalent.
- Availability to work additional hours on short notice as required.
- VA SAR/LAPP certifications, renovation, jumbo, or USDA experience (preferred).
- Experience with Encompass loan software (preferred).
Responsibilities
- Underwrite residential loans ensuring compliance with agency and investor standards.
- Evaluate loan applications, credit history, liabilities, assets, income, and collateral to assess borrower risk.
- Calculate income scenarios, including complex evaluations for self-employed borrowers and tax returns.
- Review appraisals and warrant condo projects.
- Coordinate with loan originators and production staff to obtain necessary documentation.
- Meet production goals of 2-3 new loans per day and manage turn times.
- Respond to individual and investor audits as required.
