Requirements
- 6+ years of experience as a backend senior software engineer in either Python or Kotlin.
- Strong understanding of relational database system best practices.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and architectural impacts on performance and maintainability.
- Proficiency in asynchronous communication (written tech specs, wiki, project plans).
- High degree of organization and project management skills.
- Passion for working with multi-functional teams including Product, Design, Analytics, and Business.
- Experience with AWS or other cloud providers (plus).
- Prior experience with card-related systems like Marqeta, Stripe, FIS, card processing, transaction processing, or ACH (plus).
Responsibilities
- Write high-quality backend code in Kotlin or Python for the Affirm Card product.
- Design system architectures and contribute to their implementation.
- Work cross-functionally with Product, Analytics, and engineering teams to execute card strategy.
- Build APIs and data models within service-oriented and event-driven architectures.
- Participate in engineering on-call processes to support team growth and reduce toil.
- Collaborate with the Product team to build risk and fraud mitigation features for the core decisioning service.
