Requirements
- Track record of original research in AI safety, model evaluations, machine learning, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of frontier-model behavior and evaluation or elicitation methodology.
- Ability to turn broad problems into concrete research programs and published results.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
- Comfort operating in an early-stage, evolving environment.
- Collaborative working style and willingness to remain hands-on.
- PhD or equivalent research output (preferred but not required).
- Background in dangerous capabilities, alignment, agentic systems, or model evaluations (preferred).
- Experience leading research projects or building a research function (preferred).
- Familiarity with frontier safety reports, EU AI Act, or NIST AI RMF (preferred).
- Mandarin reading or writing ability (preferred).
Responsibilities
- Set and evolve Neo’s research agenda to maximize impact.
- Lead major research projects from problem selection to publication.
- Develop rigorous approaches for studying difficult-to-observe frontier-model behaviors.
- Guide and mentor researchers while maintaining a high bar for evidence.
- Work with research engineers to build robust experimental systems.
- Build collaborations with AI Safety Institutes, frontier labs, and model developers.
- Recruit researchers and help shape the organization's research culture.
