Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- At least 1 year of experience in proofreading, editing, or a related role.
- Strong writing, proofreading, and technical editing abilities.
- Excellent command of the English language with strong grammar and communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies or errors.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to quickly learn technical subject matter and apply new concepts effectively.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines independently.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word is required.
- Experience with HTML, XML, Adobe InDesign, or similar web/document formatting tools is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Edit and proofread legal documents to ensure accuracy, consistency, proper formatting, and adherence to established style guidelines.
- Interpret legislative materials and determine appropriate organization and placement within consolidated documents.
- Prepare legal content in clear outline formats suitable for online and print publication.
- Use web coding and authoring tools, including HTML and XML, to format and publish legal information accurately.
- Manage multiple editing projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines, productivity targets, and quality expectations.
- Apply critical thinking and independent judgment when reviewing municipal law content and resolving formatting or content-related challenges.
- Communicate professionally with clients and internal stakeholders to address questions, coordinate updates, and support successful delivery.
- Collaborate with different departments to improve client satisfaction and identify opportunities for additional services.
- Participate in team meetings, contribute to process improvements, and support departmental objectives.
