Requirements
- Proficiency in both design and front-end engineering with a track record of shipping real code.
- Strong front-end engineering skills focused on production-quality UI, maintainability, performance, and accessibility.
- Deep understanding of design, user flows, and creating delightful user experiences.
- Ability to translate complex workflows and high data volumes into simple, scannable interfaces.
- Strong product thinking that aligns user needs, business outcomes, and feasibility.
- Experience building systems and reusable, maintainable UI components.
- Comfort working in 0-1 environments with shifting priorities.
- Self-directed, organized, and proactive stakeholder management.
- Demonstrated pattern of using AI tools to accelerate work, exploration, iteration, and prototyping.
Responsibilities
- Own design and front-end engineering for one of Toast's new ventures from fuzzy early concepts to shippable, high-quality production experiences.
- Write clean, maintainable front-end code, owning the quality of the experience end-to-end.
- Use AI tools to iterate quickly, generate and compare concepts, accelerate exploration, and bring workflows to life through rapid prototyping.
- Design information-dense experiences that are highly scannable and decision-oriented.
- Create prototypes that feel real, using coded flows and interaction models to help product and engineering make fast decisions.
- Make smart trade-offs under constraints, balancing MVP patterns with attention to hierarchy, states, accessibility, and performance.
- Run with a bias for action and testing, validating assumptions via low-fi experiments, coded prototypes, and iterative refinement.
- Operate autonomously to set plans and keep momentum while collaborating with a small team.
- Communicate product stories and learnings through working prototypes, demos, and written narratives.
