Requirements
- Quantitatively-oriented advanced degrees
- Substantial relevant experience using empirical tools for evidence-based decisions
- Typically 5-10 years of post-grad work experience
- Abnormal curiosity and willingness to interrogate work
- Ability to surface value judgments, background knowledge, and strategic commitments
- Careful and legible communication of confidence levels
- Ability to moderate directness and intensity in external communication
- Skill in identifying important questions, going deep on details, and reassessing mental models
Responsibilities
- Create and lead ambitious research agendas
- Answer complex questions and inform high-impact grantmaking decisions
- Combine rigorous evidence review, cost-effectiveness modeling, and thoughtful judgment
- Communicate externally about GiveWell's work
- Mentor and advise other members of the team
- Shape research agenda with rigor and creativity
- Execute research agenda through evidence review, cost-effectiveness modeling, expert discussions, and judgment
- Potentially transition into a Program Officer role
