About Generation West Virginia

Generation West Virginia (GWV) is a non-profit organization dedicated to reversing population decline and empowering young people to build thriving careers and lives in West Virginia. You will help create a future where West Virginia is a magnet for talent, not a place people leave. GWV launched the NewForce program, a tuition-free, fully remote tech career training program, to build a tech economy within the state. This initiative has seen 86% of job-seeking graduates find employment in software development within six months. The organization also connects job seekers and employers through its Career Connector platform and offers a nine-month Fellowship for emerging professionals. GWV actively strengthens broadband access, facilitating partnerships to close critical capacity gaps across various counties. This commitment to digital equity ensures more West Virginians can access opportunities. GWV has secured over $62 million in federal funding and grown its budget from $75,000 to $1.2 million.

How We Work

You will join a small, dedicated team of 1-10 employees focused on creating impactful change across West Virginia. GWV embraces a remote working culture, with programs like NewForce operating entirely virtually via Zoom. This approach fosters flexibility and accessibility, enabling individuals from across the state to participate and contribute. You will find a commitment to diversity, ensuring programs are inclusive of varied communities. Collaboration is key, as evidenced by partnerships in broadband initiatives and the NewForce program's structured mentor-trainee interactions. This environment prioritizes tangible results and community upliftment.

Technology at Generation West Virginia

At Generation West Virginia, you will engage with technology to drive state-wide development. Our NewForce program equips trainees with essential data analytics skills, including Excel/spreadsheets, SQL, Python, Tableau, and Power BI. This focus builds a modern tech workforce, addressing critical skill gaps in West Virginia. Internally, we utilize Pardot for robust analytics, helping us measure impact and refine strategies. Our infrastructure relies on Amazon and Amazon Virginia Region for hosting, ensuring reliable and secure operations. We also implement DNSSEC for enhanced security, reflecting our commitment to protecting digital assets. You will contribute to projects that translate data into actionable insights for our organization and its partners, directly improving efficiency and effectiveness.
