Requirements
- Have hospital inpatient coding experience.
- Demonstrate multi-specialty coding proficiency.
- Be proficient in ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS.
- Have knowledge of CMS, AMA CPT, ICD-10-CM/PCS, and VHA/VA compliance standards.
- Be able to review clinical documentation and resolve discrepancies.
- Have experience with electronic health records; VA systems are preferred.
- Hold one or more of the listed certifications: CCS, RHIT, RHIA, CPC, or CCS-P.
- Pass all VHA background investigations and credentialing.
- Provide three references from recent employment, including one from within the past year.
Responsibilities
- Code inpatient encounters accurately and in compliance with national standards and applicable VHA/VA policies.
- Code outpatient encounters as needed.
- Review clinical documentation and resolve discrepancies.
- Validate code selections.
- Support data integrity.
- Meet established VA productivity and quality benchmarks.
- Participate in audit activities when required.
