Requirements
- Have professional experience as a production designer, set designer, art director, set decorator, assistant art director, or theatre designer.
- Have experience with real productions, including scripts or briefs, budgets, builds, shoot or install days, and collaboration with other departments.
- Be comfortable using design tools such as SketchUp, AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Rhino, or Photoshop; not all tools are required.
- Strong hand drafting is an alternative to using the listed design tools.
- Be comfortable explaining why one design works and another does not.
- Have clear written English.
Responsibilities
- Review set designs, room setups, and production concepts against scripts, briefs, and budgets.
- Assess scale, layout, sightlines, color, and materials.
- Evaluate how a space will work for actors and camera.
- Flag production-day issues, including shot fit, materials that look false on camera, and period-inaccurate items.
- Check whether a design fits the story, setting, and budget.
- Write a short explanation for each decision.
