Requirements
- Have 3+ years of backend software engineering experience building and operating production backend services at scale.
- Have direct experience in payments, fintech, or billing, including payment gateways, processors, or PSPs.
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in Java and working knowledge of Kotlin and Python.
- Have hands-on experience with microservices and event-driven distributed systems, including message queues, asynchronous processing, and eventual consistency.
- Have experience with relational databases, specifically MySQL, and SQL.
- Be experienced with RESTful and GraphQL APIs and designing internal APIs for downstream clients.
- Have experience writing unit, integration, and contract tests.
- Have a track record building end-to-end backend payment flows, refactoring legacy systems, and resolving payment-system production incidents.
- Have experience with version control and GitLab CI/CD, Jira, and Agile/Scrum.
- Be available to cover Indian Standard Time hours, preferably 10:00 AM–7:00 PM IST.
- Work effectively with minimal supervision and collaborate asynchronously across distributed teams.
- Nice to have: Spring Boot, Gradle, service mesh architectures, PCI-DSS or payment security familiarity, Datadog, or open-source contributions.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain scalable backend payment flows for charges, refunds, dispute resolution, and asynchronous webhooks using Java, Kotlin, and Python.
- Design, implement, and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs, microservices, and event-driven systems used by downstream services.
- Refactor legacy code, migrate services, deprecate outdated APIs, and increase test coverage.
- Write unit, integration, and contract tests and manage version control, branch workflows, and deployment pipelines through GitLab CI/CD.
- Participate in sprint planning, peer code reviews, architectural discussions, and Agile/Scrum ceremonies.
- Triage and resolve production incidents in payment and billing environments using logging and monitoring tools.
- Produce architectural designs, API specifications, knowledge-transfer documents, and operational runbooks.
