Requirements

  • Bring 10+ years of software or infrastructure engineering experience delivering complex platform solutions.
  • Have 6+ years of hands-on experience operating production Kubernetes at scale, ideally EKS on AWS.
  • Demonstrate deep EKS and Kubernetes internals expertise, including upgrades, node lifecycle, scheduling, and autoscaling.
  • Have strong AWS cloud-native architecture experience, including EC2, VPC, IAM, and EKS.
  • Use Infrastructure as Code, including Terraform; Spacelift experience is a plus.
  • Have experience with GitOps-style deployment pipelines, such as ArgoCD or kube-applier.
  • Demonstrate expert-level Go or Python proficiency and experience building production-grade Kubernetes controllers, operators, and platform tooling.
  • Understand workload reliability patterns, including resource tuning, probes, PDBs, topology, and isolation constraints.
  • Have experience designing and enforcing platform standards using admission control, OPA/Gatekeeper, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrate observability experience defining SLOs, building metrics, logs, and alerting coverage, and running baseline audits.
  • Show a track record of setting standards across many teams and cross-functional technical leadership.
  • Have exceptional problem-solving and systems-thinking skills.
  • Have a related Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and evolve the EKS platform across cluster lifecycle, node management, and shared cluster components.
  • Lead cluster provisioning, upgrades, and teardown through standardized IaC and self-service workflows.
  • Own the reliability of shared fleet components and the CI/CD pipeline that ships them.
  • Define and enforce workload safety standards for resource configuration, isolation, disruption tolerance, and consolidation.
  • Build automation and enforcement paths to move standards from onboarding to policy-enforced defaults.
  • Establish observability, baseline audits, and reporting to identify hot spots and measure risk mitigation.
  • Partner with cluster-user teams to understand workload needs and shape the platform.
  • Drive cost and capacity strategy across node scaling, bin packing, and EC2 instance selection.
  • Mentor engineers and set operational excellence standards.
  • Participate in on-call, triage and catalogue runtime Kubernetes issues, and collaborate with SRE on incidents.
