Requirements
- Hold a Master's degree or PhD in a quantitative field such as computer science, machine learning, data science, or biostatistics; a PhD is welcome but not required.
- Have around 5 years of hands-on data science or ML experience, including taking models to production on messy real-world data.
- Fine-tune BERT- or RoBERTa-family transformer encoders, including biomedical or clinical variants such as BioBERT or ClinicalBERT, typically using Hugging Face Transformers.
- Have hands-on experience with generative LLMs, including prompt design, structured outputs, fine-tuning such as LoRA or PEFT, RAG, and evaluation at scale.
- Apply rigorous model evaluation, including gold sets, error analysis, and LLM-as-judge methods.
- Demonstrate strong Python and SQL skills.
- Use AI tools such as Claude and Cursor as a core part of your work.
- Be fluent in English and confident presenting to cross-functional and non-technical stakeholders.
- Clinical notes or EHR data experience and familiarity with ICD, CPT, or RxNorm are strongly preferred.
- PySpark, Databricks, MLflow, AWS, Amazon SageMaker, R, TypeScript, relevant specialty data, medical imaging, real-world evidence studies, or peer-reviewed publications are nice to have.
Responsibilities
- Build and improve LLM- and transformer-based pipelines to extract structured data from clinical notes using named entity recognition, text classification, and relation extraction.
- Evaluate models using gold-standard datasets, error analysis, and metrics trusted by clinicians and researchers.
- Fine-tune, deploy, and monitor models in production.
- Work with Medical and Product teams to translate clinical questions into concrete data and model requirements.
- Present results and trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences.
