Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN).
- Maintain current registration and good standing with a Canadian provincial or territorial nursing college.
- Have no active malpractice investigations and have professional liability coverage in place.
- Have experience in a patient-facing clinical setting; primary care, medical-surgical or emergency care experience is preferred.
- Demonstrate strong clinical judgment and confidence reviewing lab results and specialist documentation.
- Be comfortable working independently in a remote, technology-enabled environment.
- Be proficient using Mac devices and able to learn new digital tools quickly.
- Have excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Understand patient privacy and confidentiality requirements.
- Work variable hours based on operational demand; most contractors support an average of 10–20 hours per week, depending on volume and availability.
Responsibilities
- Clinically review lab results issued through Maple and assign appropriate follow-up recommendations for patients.
- Identify abnormal or critical results and determine how urgently patients need follow-up care.
- Contact patients directly when critical results require immediate emergency care.
- Escalate complex cases to physicians when appropriate.
- Prepare referral documentation and required forms based on clinical directives.
- Assign referrals to appropriate specialist clinics based on patient location, clinical need and specialty.
- Redirect referrals when clinics are unresponsive or decline them.
- Review specialist consult reports and determine whether patient follow-up is required.
- Support additional workstreams as scheduling and operational needs require.
