Requirements
- Have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Have a minimum of 6 months of customer service experience.
- Have basic computer skills.
- Type at least 50 words per minute.
- Demonstrate oral and written proficiency in English.
- Have a quiet, private home workspace within 50 miles of a VISN 19 VA Medical Center.
- Have reliable high-speed internet.
- Be able to pass a federal background investigation (NACI, Low Risk).
- Prior federal healthcare experience is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with VistA, CPRS, or VA community care referral systems is strongly preferred.
- Healthcare scheduling, medical office administration, insurance verification, or healthcare call center experience is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Schedule Veteran appointments for primary care, specialty clinics, and community care in accordance with VHA Directive 1230.
- Meet scheduling accuracy and timeliness standards each shift.
- Verify and update patient demographics, next of kin, emergency contact, and insurance information.
- Document interactions in CPRS and VistA, averaging at least 20 cases per day over the week.
- Coordinate with the Lead Scheduler and care teams.
- Escalate stalled referrals and system issues through defined channels.
- Provide professional, empathetic customer service to Veterans, family members, and VA staff by phone and secure channels.
- Complete annual cybersecurity, Privacy Act, and HIPAA training, and maintain confidentiality on every record.
