Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Have 11 or more years of professional backend or platform engineering experience.
- Demonstrate experience building and operating internal platforms or shared services consumed by multiple engineering teams.
- Have hands-on expertise designing distributed systems, with attention to consistency, availability, latency, and failure modes.
- Have advanced proficiency in at least one major backend language, such as Java, Go, Scala, Rust, or modern C++.
- Understand high-throughput messaging, streaming, and event-driven architectures using technologies such as Kafka, Pulsar, or NATS.
- Have working knowledge of relational, key-value, document, and search storage systems.
- Have experience leading multi-quarter platform initiatives across teams, including stakeholder management and technical decision-making.
- Communicate clearly in writing and verbally, including authoring technical design documents and presenting trade-offs.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering culture through code review, design review, and onboarding.
- Experience with Kubernetes-based platforms, internal developer platforms, open-source infrastructure, control-plane/data-plane patterns, service meshes, workflow orchestration, or backward-compatible platform APIs is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate foundational platforms and shared services used by other engineering teams.
- Build backend platform capabilities for request routing and traffic management.
- Develop data fan-out and caching layers.
- Build asynchronous job execution and durable event-processing capabilities.
- Design systems to handle high traffic volumes with predictable latency and minimal operational toil.
- Lead multi-quarter platform initiatives across teams.
- Make technical decisions and manage stakeholders across platform initiatives.
