Requirements
- Demonstrate exceptional visual and UX taste in a portfolio.
- Have strong typography skills, including hierarchy, spacing, line length, rhythm, and readability.
- Show a portfolio of real consumer product work; designing and shipping products end to end is expected.
- Bring strong interaction and motion judgment.
- Use AI to explore ideas, prototype interactions, and develop rough concepts into tangible work; understand where the tools fall short.
- Prototype ideas so people can interact with them early.
- Be able to create a coherent experience without a detailed specification, existing design system, or competitor to copy.
- Understand implementation constraints and collaborate closely with engineers through delivery.
- Exercise independent design judgment, explain decisions, and challenge founders when appropriate.
- Have a genuine interest in consumer psychology.
- Preferred: four or more years designing consumer products, early-stage company experience, and experience taking at least one product from concept to launch.
Responsibilities
- Design the reading experience, including typography, layout, the composer, streaming text, transitions, and motion.
- Design wider product experiences such as onboarding, story discovery, the library, character interactions, episode endings, and sharing.
- Turn rough ideas into clickable prototypes for exploration and testing.
- Use AI and modern prototyping tools to explore ideas and prototype interactions quickly.
- Work with the founding engineer through implementation, test the product, and refine details until the shipped experience meets the design standard.
- Establish the product's visual language, interaction patterns, and design standards.
- Collaborate directly with the founders and founding engineer to build, take the product to market, and improve it based on real reader behavior.
