Requirements
- Have seven or more years of experience building backend services in production.
- Bring strong TypeScript and Node.js skills, or strong experience in another backend language and the ability to become productive in TypeScript quickly.
- Have built systems where accidental duplicate processing is a serious bug.
- Write tests as part of the work, including load tests.
- Have supported your own services in production and led investigations after incidents.
- Be able to explain and defend designs clearly in writing and in review.
- Have deep experience in at least two of the following: high-throughput distributed applications, advanced PostgreSQL, advanced Kafka, or caching in distributed applications.
- Payments, banking or accounting background is a nice to have.
- Kubernetes and Docker experience is a nice to have.
- Experience with monitoring, tracing and profiling tools is a nice to have.
- Performance engineering as a named part of a previous role is a nice to have.
- Spanish is a nice to have.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, review and ship work from the team backlog, then support it in production.
- Investigate production incidents, fix their causes and document what happened.
- Profile hot paths and improve system performance.
- Design PostgreSQL schemas, indexes and queries to support throughput and avoid lock or transaction bottlenecks.
- Choose caching strategies and implement invalidation to keep balances current.
- Design event flows so messages are processed exactly once and the system recovers after broker or consumer failures.
- Lead cross-team design work on partitioning, capacity planning, ledger failover and platform guarantees.
- Help other engineers grow through code review and pairing.
